With that said, let's discuss a little more about AdWords, AdWords certification exams, and the badged partner system. To become a Google AdWords certified individual, you need to pass two of the AdWords certification exams. One of the exams must be the AdWords Fundamentals exam and the other can be any of the following: Search Advertising, Display Advertising, Mobile Advertising, Video Advertising, or Shopping Advertising. Google Partners administers all AdWords, Analytics and Mobile Sites exams and certificates.
The AdWords Fundamentals exam covers basic and intermediate concepts, including the benefits of online advertising and AdWords, and best practices for managing and optimizing AdWords campaigns. This exam must be passed however no one can become certified in AdWords Fundamentals, since this is a core competency test that validates the other passed AdWords exams.
The Search Advertising exam covers advanced concepts and best practices for creating, managing, measuring, and optimizing Search campaigns.
The Display Advertising exam covers advanced concepts and best practices for creating, managing, measuring, and optimizing Display campaigns.
The Mobile Advertising exam covers the basic and advanced concepts of mobile advertising, including ad formats, bidding and targeting, and campaign measurement and optimization.
The Video Advertising exam covers basic and advanced concepts, including best practices for creating, managing, measuring, and optimizing video advertising campaigns across YouTube and the web.
The Shopping Advertising exam covers basic and advanced concepts, including creating a Merchant Center account and product data feed, and creating and managing Shopping campaigns.
The Mobile Sites exam covers basic and advanced concepts, including best practices for creating, managing, measuring, and optimizing mobile websites.
The Google Analytics individual qualification exam covers basic and advanced Google Analytics concepts. This includes topics such as 1) planning and principles, 2) implementation and data collection, 3) configuration and administration, 4) conversion and attribution, 5) reports, metrics, and dimensions.
Once the exams are passed the agency can begin to focus on becoming a badged Google Partner. Since the agency cannot become a partner without the certifications, these need to be done first. These will also become the foundation to managing client's spend levels with their AdWords accounts and make sure they are performing to AdWords Best Practices, all of which is absolutely required to even be considered for the Badged Google Partner Program. In essence, the agency will need two certifications, a completed company profile with Google, meet spend requirements to show a healthy amount of monthly activity, and show a constant demonstration of best practices to maximize AdWords performance. Once all of these are met (and maintained), a company can submit their application to Google who will review and take the necessary steps to validate the application and process it further.
